Recently I had the opportunity to attend ISES Live 2014 in Seattle, Washington.  What an amazing social, educational, and inspiring experience.  The four day conference (August 17-20) included Leadership Meetings and Round Table discussions, fabulous events, quality education and the Esprit Awards Gala.

The Annual General Meeting gave me the opportunity to learn more about where ISES is going and what initiatives are being implemented to secure our place as the best Event Industry organization.  “We Are ISES” is a tag line you will hear and hopefully speak, to enforce our pride as members of ISES.  “It’s Go Time”, “Be Fearless” are two other mantras our new ISES International President, Kevin White proudly shouted during his swear in speech.   Awards were given to numerous chapters for their “Spirit of Excellence” and accomplishments.  Our Cleveland Chapter was recognized for Excellence in Membership Recruitment, and received an honorable mention in 4 additional categories!  It was a very proud moment!

I took advantage of the educational opportunities to learn, grow, and focus on core values: Creativity, Inspiration, Teamwork, Education, Relationships.  Technology is playing such an important role in our industry and that will only continue to push us forward in every avenue of an event.  I definitely learned we all need to embrace it or fall behind.  All the seminars included and stressed the importance of incorporating Technology into events, from production to décor.

The networking was incredible!  Just to see and meet so many ISES members from all over the world and share our experiences and knowledge with one another was truly amazing.  All the events were top notch and showcased so many new and interesting components, from delicious food, décor, entertainment and of course technology!  Lighting seemed to be the key component and feature throughout the conference.  The Esprit Awards Gala was an elegant evening of congratulating and honoring fellow members for their hard work, creativity, dedication and accomplishments in being the best of the best.  I was personally honored to accept the award for “Best Event for a Non-Profit Organization  (Under $75,000)” on behalf of our very own, Mo Patterson, Owner of Solus Lighting for her Lighting Design work for World AIDS Day!  Congratulations to Mo and her Staff!!  It was a wonderful experience and I look forward to attending future ISES Live Conferences.
