Convention Services & Events Manager Ashley Martin and Destination Cleveland have the awesome task of promoting all things Cleveland, and we caught up with Ashley to learn more about what ISES Cleveland brings to the table for her and her organization!

WHAT LEAD YOU TO SIGN UP WITH ISES?

I heard so many great things from different members that it made me want to join. The networking is invaluable and, not only is there a sense of comradery, there also is a true bond that is formed between members that will last a lifetime.

WHAT’S SOMETHING FUN THAT PEOPLE MIGHT NOT KNOW ABOUT YOU OR YOUR COMPANY?

I used to be a chef for about 10 years before I made the switch to event planning. My experience as a chef made me very adaptable to changing and stressful situations. I love being on the event planning side now and I really love what I do.

Being a part of Destination Cleveland’s team has been a great career move for me. I am so fortunate to have to opportunity to plan events all over the Greater Cleveland area and work with all kinds of different conventions that come into the city.

WHAT MAKES YOU OR YOUR COMPANY SPECIAL?

As Cleveland’s Convention and Visitors Bureau, Destination Cleveland’s mission is to drive economic impact and stimulate community vitality for Greater Cleveland through leisure and business travel. Simply stated, we work to bring visitors to Cleveland.

With that being said, I am lucky to be a part of this great organization that is changing the narrative about our beloved city in the minds of those who travel here from other states and from around the world.

WHAT IS THE BEST INDUSTRY ADVICE YOU’VE EVER RECEIVED?

I have three guiding principles:

The first is that you can never ask enough questions. Do your homework on the task at hand; it only makes you look better to the client.

The second, never say “no;” rather, have an alternate option for the client.

And third, a positive attitude and great customer service will always work out in your favor.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT BEING AN ISES CLEVELAND MEMBER?

The networking, which helps me form so many valuable connections. I also really enjoy being a part of the Programs and Education Committee.

I am learning so many different things from each member and I feel like I also am able to contribute by sharing information that is new to others. It’s so powerful to see everyone grow from one another!
