2016 Wedding Event Recap

ILEA 2016 WEDDING EVENT

The wedding event was hosted at the new Hilton Downtown, and attended by over 100 guests. Bite sized appetizers passed by servers greeted guests as they entered, and the room was complete with beautifully scaped tables designed together by our ILEA’s finest members and participating sponsors, including L’nique Specialty Linen Rental, Borrow Rentals, Marbella, All Occasions, Party Decor, Burning River Entertainment, Brides by the Falls, Shannon Michael Salon, Imagine It Photography, and Danielion.

The theme of the wedding event was East Coast v. West Coast in wedding trends, and each table embodied the different designs we see popular across the country.

After cocktail hour and networking, guests were invited to sit for our guest speaker, Daniel from Danielion, in ceremony style seating. At the front of the room, two tables set up showed examples of East Coast and West Coast centerpieces.

ILEA Cleveland President, Vince Iannaggi, from L’nique, introduced our guest speaker, Daniel Stober. If you haven’t read his bio yet, he has been in the floral industry for over 25 years, and has studied under master floral designers, and worked for celebrity clients across the globe.

Daniel had fascinating insights into the wedding trends on both coasts, but noted that they are all interchangeable. The East Coast designed inspiration table featured a floor length neutral lace patterned linen, with an overlay of modern geometric white patterns. The East Coast brides favor more florals on the tables, and the current trend is the more organic, whimsical centerpieces. The East Coast bride (makeup and hair provided by Shannon Michael Salon) wore a lace dress, floral hair piece in the back, and a dainty gold necklace that dropped along her back. Her bouquet was adorned with ribbons, and similar style whimsical and organic florals, full of greenery and blooms.

Daniels West Coast table featured a black and white geometric linen, and a unique centerpiece. The centerpiece structure was a tall metal base, woven with white preserved branches, greenery and glass ornaments hung off the branches. Green garland and abundant stems of vibrant purple orchids were then placed by Daniel around the centerpiece. The bride wore a Gatsby inspired bridal gown, and carried a black mini calla lily flowered bouquet, with a simple gold adorned grip.

Listening to Daniel speak gave members insight into his career, and how he has come so far. During the Q&A, we learned that he refuses to meet with a bride until they have paid for their bridesmaid dresses, as years in the field has taught him how important it is to have a color scheme picked out, as it is so vital to his work. Don’t visit his show room and expect a photo book of floral arrangements, Daniel gets to know his clients and design work for them based on their personality, not by them picking through options A, B, C.

Daniels favorite type of functions to plan are the personal ones, and will do as little as a bouquet for a bride, to planning the opening of a new stadium. His best marketing tool is word of mouth, and providing exceptional customer service. He respects and praises his team for the work they do for him, and has created valuable connections across the country. He put emphasis on how important it is to network in the industry, and get to know vendors and their products.

When asked about the color trends of 2017, he anticipates muddy colors, neutrals and gray.

The evening then wrapped up with a mouthwatering display of desserts and finger pastries provided by Wild Flower Bakery.

If you’d like to learn more from Daniel, you can attend special classes at his studio, listed on his website.
