ILEA Gives Back: Dec My Room Recap

The ILEA Cleveland Chapter gathered together on Tuesday, May 9th at the @Cleveland Intercontinental Hotel downtown, for the annual ILEA Gives Back event.

The event was sponsored by Party Décor, Mystic Image, Sabrina Gorbett Events and Intercontinental Hotel Cleveland to support the wonderful non-profit, Dec My Room.

Founded over ten years ago, the goal of Dec My Room has been to change a dull hospital room for children into a cozier, more personalized hospital room that is filled with things that each child and family will find comforting during their stay. They are helping hospitals across the country, in Texas, California, Massachusetts, New York, and Ohio.

After enjoying breakfast provided by the Intercontinental, members were formed into groups to start helping! We made:

  • No sew blankets (for the cold hospital rooms)
  • Get Well cards (several are given to each patient)
  • Decorated Storage bins (as hospital rooms have limited storage, for the children and families to store small items, such as toiletries)

During the event, members were also invited on a tour of the hotel facilities, including meeting and event spaces, the ballroom and a hotel room. Thank you to the lovely ladies who lead these tours!

If you’d like to learn more or become involved with Dec My Room, please visit their website for more information. http://www.decmyroom.org/to-volunteer.aspx

Thank you to everyone who came, and a special thank you to the team at Marigold Catering.  In addition to their time and personal donations, Joan & Mike matched the team’s contributions dollar for dollar!
