CATERING OPERATIONS COORDINATOR
Coordinate internal, corporate, social and/or special events at Lakeland Community College—including Mooreland Mansion, Breakers, Holden University Center and Health Technologies Building.
Record event arrangements booked in person, via the telephone or through correspondence; obtain pertinent information including size of the party, menu, equipment requirements and facility/set up needs and proposed schedule of events.
Assist to determine technology needs and manage room availability; ensure proper use, storage and rental fee of equipment for each client.
Plan and coordinate all aspects of catering and event sales which includes meeting with clients, menu development, and presentation. Work with management and staff to ensure cost effectiveness for all catering events.
Complete a Food Services Basic Event Order form to detail the type of service, menu, special instructions/room set-up, kitchen, linen, table and chair needs and rentals to ensure proper service and effective pricing.
Inspect and monitor quality of products, services and facilities.
Train and orient catering staff on proper procedures.
Inspect all personnel at the beginning of work shifts for compliance with appearance.
Greet clients upon arrival. Coordinate with Chef front line food presentation, set up, and display and supervise the service function for hot/cold foods for all catered functions.
Supervise all labor from set-up to clean up of events. Coordinate the needs of the client to those of the production staff to ensure quality and timely service is maintained at all times.
Forecast and order bar supplies including beer, wine, liquors, mixes, soft drinks as needed for all events.
Understand timing for set up and breakdown for all events on Lakeland Community College campus and facilities. Prepare requests with Events Services Coordinator to have tables and chairs in place in adequate time for set up.
Ability to close building at the end of events to assure facility is safe and locked securely. Contact Lakeland Police at the end of event to confirm building is closed. Secure any and all bar cash receipts at the end of the events as needed.
Secure and lock up all bar items at the end of events and complete ending bar inventories for billing purposes.
Assist Manager of Event Services with special projects and related duties as assigned.
Education/Training and Experience Required/Preferred
Minimum of three to five years of catering or event experience in a large hotel, conference center or university environment is required.
Experience in food service management with menu and buffet theme development and sales is preferred.
Computer skills in Excel, Word and Events Management software preferred.
An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities is acceptable.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of event and food service principles for tray, buffet and reception service utilizing sophisticated catering procedures to address cost control for payroll, foods and other related expenses.
Knowledge of technology and experience using Microsoft software packages.
Skills in customer service with effective negotiating and closing techniques and to coordinate events and activities with a multitude of details and participants.
Skills in oral and written communications with attention to detail for accurate records, food and equipment inventories, and training and coordinating staff.
Ability to work independently and under pressure, and to develop and maintain effective and professional interpersonal relations within and outside the College, including the ability to exercise sound judgment.

Medium – Mostly standing and walking, some sitting; lifting 50 lbs. occasionally.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a part-time or full-time, continuing or non-continuing position that requires the availability to work a flexible schedule as assigned and may include day, evening, and weekend hours or overtime with varying days off.
A valid Ohio driver’s license and a driving record which qualifies the driver under the College’s insurance program are required.
